Annual Foal Auction / Re: How'd You Do? 2022
« on: December 10, 2018, 07:31:25 pm »
Missed out on one of my top four picks but got the other three and an afterthought, for $1000 each.

Madameoiselle (Candidate x Ch Chevalerie (Chivalry)). Yearling. First foal for SW, MSP dam who’s half to FFCh I’m No Fool.

Cattitude (Lucky Streak x Kimo Cat (Storm Cat)). Yearling. Her pedigree doesn’t look much at first glance but I already have her two eldest half-siblings in the broodmare band. One is gold-ranked and the other a solid silver. I like her sire too.

Lady of Hay (Long Live The King x Ch Have A Hayday (What’s It Worth)). Weanling. I love her sire and although her dam hasn’t produced much to date, she’s fantastically bred being a MSW half-sister to ICh Little Miss, NCh Gone Haywire, GCh Little Lass & GCh My Lucky Day. There have been 3 runners to date bred on the same sire-broodmare sire cross and all are stakes level racers so I’m hopeful this one will have some talent.

Wild Moon (Moonopoly x NCh Devilish Lass (Highland Bandit)). Weanling. I have her 2yo half-sister at home and thought she was worth a shot at the price.

Total spend of $4000 :)

There’s usually an auction for 2yos in March, a mixed Auction in July which is all types of horses, Select Auction in september (all types again but horses must be stakes calibre e.g stakes winner/produced stakes level foals - for the unraced ponies they need to be out of a stakes level mare or half-sibling to a stakes level performer. The. There’s also the youngstock auction which, as you know, is going on now.

Sadly not (there’s a few in the FF herd i’d Like to get my hands on!).

Full info in this post here:

Basically you have to hope that the horses on your wish list appear in one of the 4 FF annual auctions or, if the horse is racing age, they end up in a claiming races and try and nab them that way. Welcome to the game, hope you enjoy it :)

General/Questions / Re: 2yo's for 2023
« on: December 08, 2018, 07:16:25 am »
My post from last year has also disappeared and I can't remember who I was hopeful about.

We've currently got 52 2yos (plus 2 recent purchases who haven't raced for us yet so can't take any credit for those). 18 of those have managed at least one win, several have placed and we still have two who are yet to race. So far, the most successful would be Belle of the Ball who's a stakes winner, Principality (MSP), Cool Thunder (SP & 3 wins).

For 2023 I suspect most of the horses we have are likely to be late maturing types who'll probably be better at 3+. We currently have 69 yearlings. Perhaps the nicest looking of the bunch so far are:

Book of Secrets (Calle de Oro x GCh Ancient Fire). First foal for MSW dam who's half to NCh Ancient Magic. From his sire's first crop.

Buttermere (Ring of Fire x Just A Fox). Definitely a later type but deserves a mention as I love Ring of Fire and Just A Fox has been a wonderful broodmare. This filly is half to ICh Sionnach & NCh Llwynog.

Cashin In (Von Lichtenstein x British Pounds). Four older siblings to race - 1 x MSW, 1 X SW,MSP and 1 x MSP. VL is the sire of our two best performing two year olds this year so we're hopeful for this guy.

Murmuration (Golden Text x ICh Blackbird). A later foal but our first homebred out of Blackbird, who we were lucky enough to pick up from one of Shanthi's 'thinning out the herd' sales. Half to GCh Millenium Falcon.

Smooch (Foolhardy x Ch Kissing Point). First foal for MSW dam. Sire needs no introduction. May be late maturing as dam showed no form until she was 4.

Tales Old As Time (Foolhardy x Question Authority) Penultimate foal from this mare (final filly). Half to several stakes level horses, most notably ICh Quarren. Another that's likely to be late maturing (half-sister Smaug has hit stakes level this year for the first time as a 5yo, 3yo half-brother has only recently broken his maiden, Quarren was stakes level from 3-5 years).

Vienna (Sponsored x WCh Highland Jet). Dam was exceptional on the track. Her best runners to date have been by Foolhardy but we're hopeful this filly will have some talent. Sire's early runners haven't done much to date but he's only had a small number hit the track.

I have to say, I’m quite surprised (but happy) to see Quarren with several winners at this stage of the year since he didn’t break his maiden until the April of his 3yo year. Madame Pele probably gets her talent from the dam side ;)

I’ve got a handful of Black Cherry youngsters but none for the other guys that have reached Racing age yet.
