General/Questions / Re: Injuried Mare?
« on: July 18, 2017, 08:28:43 am »
Cheers Shanthi,

I guess I'll just have to rest her and bring her back for the remaining 8 starts. Not many make it back from bowed tendon's though!

General/Questions / Injuried Mare?
« on: July 17, 2017, 11:52:38 am »
Hi Shanthi,

I came across one from left field today, a mare that I claimed (6 year old) during her first start injuried herself (bowed tendon) after her 2nd start.

I thought seeing she was 6 I'd retire her to the breeding barn but worked out as she hadn't had 10 starts she's ineligible  :-\ Obviously by the rules she can't be bred with but I don't think the rules took into consideration 6 year old first starters!

Brought one for the $100k, think it's the first time I've ever been successful when in a random draw  :)

Grey colt -

ICh. Candidate  x Onyx (G)

Fingers crossed he turns out like some of his siblings.

General/Questions / Re: How To Train
« on: October 03, 2015, 11:54:43 am »
I've certainly struggled with the training and my winning percentage has declined dramatically  ???

I've even looked to purchase horses from other stables with better winning percentages just to peek at their training methods  :o

Been revamping a few lately so time will tell.

Annual Select Auction / Re: 2019 How'd You Do?
« on: September 08, 2015, 10:59:42 am »
Picked up 5 and for the first time the first 5 I selected to bid on.

I normally have a list selected which evolves as the auctions goes on, the end result is normally different from the start due to being out bid etc but this time I got 5 and all very reasonable.  ;D

Went for a cross section, 2 broodmares to add to the band, 1 racehorse, 1 yearling and 1 weanling  :)

Hi All,

I'm maintaining the same roster as last season with 3 boys.

Any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

General/Questions / Re: Advice on older horses, SC prospects
« on: August 18, 2013, 07:02:28 am »
I'm a bit like Shanthi, If they are racing well on turf / dirt I don't switch but if they are struggling then I'll put them over the fences.

That said if I have something from a jumping family I'll try earlier or occasionally I'll buy something from an auction or claim one as I think they may make a jumper.

General/Questions / Re: What to do with her
« on: September 23, 2012, 12:27:15 am »
I'm at a loss as to what to do with my filly, Ch. Daytona Weekend. She was fantastic at 2 but apparently that was her prime year. I rested her Oct-Jan 2016, then for a month in March, and from May to July. I put her through the jump trials and her reports aren't great. I keep experimenting with equipment and nothing. If she were older, I'd retire. She just seems so young!

What would you do?

It's a shame you put her over the jumps as she her record pegs her as a dirt sprinter.

If I send mine home to the farm it's normally for 90 days plus for a decent rest, I find once back in work they recapture some of their old form, I've also brought a few in sales and auctions that only needed a rest ;)

Hopefully down the track you maybe able to return her to flat racing.

If you're worried about the outcrosses why not look at something that may shuttle from Australia such as -

Fastnet Rock
Bell Esprit (as he sired Black Caviar)
Sepoy (just retired)

Once again I forgot about it after studying every mare and marking my picks  :-[

Thankfully it didn't matter as my 3 top picks all went well past the depths of my pockets  :o

Good luck to those who snared some new ponies!
