Famous Races/Horses / Re: Breeder's Cup Festival (Nov. 2-3)
« on: September 20, 2018, 09:36:18 pm »
I just noticed that there are no SC Breeder's Cup races in real life, but there is a Juvenile Turf Sprint which isn't in the game.

There actually is a Breeders' Cup Steeplechase (called the G1 Breeders' Cup Grand National), but it's always at Far Hills in New Jersey and I THINK it goes off a few weeks before the actual BC. So it's sort of an unofficial BC race. I'm fine with not having all the RL BC races (I feel there's too many nowadays. Make it harder again! And not a marathon to watch 2 days of races). That being said, I do miss the RL BC Marathon and would totally welcome it in FF, haha.

Can I please have a June spot to Space Chips for Little Black Dress?

Sending out another filly this year in the JCGC with Flaming Key. She won the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks last out so distance shouldn't be a problem. This will be her final prep before the Breeders' Cup (if all goes well).

I usually have a mass lineup for the Juvenile races, but not this year. Tentatively I have about 10 aimed for the BC with most in SC races. Definitely planning for Beratis to run in the BC SC Endurance, Flaming Key in the BC Distaff, Chortle in the BC Mile, Marchioness in the BC Filly/Mare Turf, and Foolish Whispers in the BC Juvenile Turf Fillies. Others had a not-so-great last outing so I'm on the fence and just watching the Qualifier list for now.

Sorry to see him go. He got to 6 SW, etc as a 3YO but I just couldn't get him to get the last SW he needed to become Stud-Qualified. Finally decided to sell him in the hopes that he might have an uptake in form in new surroundings. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and, as he is now 8YO and probably well past his prime, I can understand why he would be retired.

We have another horse in a similar position, NCh. Gaudy Night, who is a year younger but also only needs one more SW. Unlike Bracton, Gaudy Night has shown a little recent form this year, including winning the G1 Grand National for the second time, so we are still hopeful for him.

Hopefully Gaudy Night makes it! Bracton has not earned a dime or even hit the board in years so I felt it was finally time to throw in the towel. I am still hopeful for Clowning Around though, who just needs a SW of any grade. At least he's 6 and has hit the board this year (albeit in an allowance). Hoping a very long rest until the Breeders' Series this winter will be enough.

Annual Select Auction / Re: 2022 Annual Select Auction - How'd You Do?
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:49:11 pm »
Picked up a final three at 25k each. Overall, only spent $209,000 for 8 horses from the Select Auction. I think I've done worse with just 3 horses in prior years.

Mandalay Bay (Blue Smoke x Las Vegas). Weanling filly, named for a Luxury hotel in Vegas, Of her 4 raced half-sibs, one is champion-titled and a SW and one has hit the board in all 5 of her lifetime starts. Gimme A Shot is gold as a damsire, so fingers crossed. Las Vegas is also half to the dam of NCh. Crafty Magic.

Folkloriques (French Ruby x Folk Song). Formerly named The People's Song, yearling colt purchased from Coleman Branch. His dam set 2 speed records at SC, Folkloriques is a full sibling to Ch. Cabrette who is SP over jumps, and half to Twelve Bar Blues who has won 6/9 SC starts and has been off the board just once. Given Ruby's tendency to throw jump foals, he should be a jump monster once he ages.

Mord'Sith (Must Be Magic x Queen of Scots). Set a speed record and was G2P while racing. Half to gold-ranked Ch. Marie de Guise and silver-ranked Ch. Spectacular Queen. I don't have any Must Be Magic daughters and he's gold for damsire, so very happy to pick her up.

One highlight! Though after a rather disastrous meet for the 4th time in a row, I sent about half the herd home. Maybe it will hurt less and we can come back better for the winter holidays.

7(1)-1(1)-1-1-2 $167,750

Ch. Awwshescute (3yo, Animal Kingdom) in the Gazelle Stakes (Gr. 1)

Kalanag (4yo, Highland Magic) in a NW3 Allowance

Colorful Gold (5yo, Gilded Saint) in an Allowance

Ch. Arkenstone (4yo, Eighteen Karat) in an Allowance
Past Glory (5yo, Magic Glory) in an Allowance

 Hogmanay (2yo, Edinburgh) in a NW3 Allowance

 Also Rans:
Exultant Trail (2yo, Silver Wizard) 7th in a NW1 Allowance

Brought home our fifth, with pending bids on another 3 after Shanthi raised the limits because I have a problem, haha.

Ode to Autumn, a weanling by our late stud NCh. Yes It's Paddy out of the silver-ranked Reine-de-Course mare Autumn Melodies. He's half to MSW and millionaire GCh. Autumn Cat and 4 other winners. Bought for 25k.
