Not too bad, 4 of 7 hit the board!

Temple Maid (2yo, Worth My While) against 14 in a NW2.
To Alaska against 7 in his OA.

As You See (As You Wish) in an OA against 12.
Candied Roses (2yo, What's Your Point) in a Maiden against 14.

Annual Select Auction / Re: 2016 Horses Consigned
« on: August 01, 2012, 11:50:40 pm »
I really hope my horses start winning everything in site between now and September 1st, but I don't see this happening, haha. I do have one consigned, so hopefully she'll at least hit her reserve! (and keep going!). Some part of me hopes bidding for everything will get so insane I won't bother.

Ok, just looked, and there's a yearling I really, really want. Aaaah.

Questions / Re: Negative after taxes

Nothing happens if you're in the red, you just can't really "do" anything (ship, enter races, breed to non-free studs, etc). The game doesn't kick you out or anything, though. :)

That makes sense. So it is, "Sell until you're no longer in the red," but mostly because you can't do a thing, haha. Thanks Shanthi!

Questions / Negative after taxes

Since I couldn't find this under the FAQ, unless I missed it, what happens if you go into the negative after taxes? I've been slowly selling horses to both cut back on numbers and to get rid of those not earning their keep and have another 13 in the youngstock auction this winter but I'm still at a super scary -$400,000 after taxes. I presume you have to keep selling until you're no longer in the negative once taxes have been collected, but how long are you allowed to be in the negative until bad things happen? Just trying to plan ahead if my ponies can't earn me that 400k+ come new years.

Finally a good day! We went weeks with extremely poor finishes, to the point where there really wasn't a point in posting a report, haha. Today we sent out 8 and half hit the board. Luckily almost all of our also-rans are 2yo's.

Red Dog was our sole winner today, beating a field of 10 in an OA.

Jade Fox whom we purchased from the Mixed Auction ran 2nd/7 in her OA, losing to a MSW.
Anne Boleyn showed her old form and ran 2nd/6 in a NW3.

Macau against 7 others in a Maiden in his first start since we bought from from the Mixed Auction. Still figuring him out.

Ravens Pass OR Smarty Jones

I think between the two, I'd much rather have Raven's Pass.

Regarding Sixties Icon, Yeats, and New Approach, they're all very nice so that's a toughie. Sixties Icon's first crop (2010) is doing pretty well with a G3 winner already, so I think he'd get my vote. I love Yeats, though, but between the three I'd go for Sixties Icon.

All the girls found new homes! Good luck to Stillwater Farms, Triple M Racing, and Oakwood Farms. No love for the boys?

Sent out 10 and 3 hit the board. C'mon kids, pick it up!

Irish Miss ran 2nd/6 in her NW2.
Magic Lable was 2nd/6 in her NW3. We just picked this girl up for 1k from the mixed auction, so we're super happy!
Hot Nurse also 2nd/11 in her OA, missing the winner by 1/2 length but finishing 2-3/4 lengths in front of the next horse.

Annual Mixed Auction / Re: How'd You Do 2016
« on: July 16, 2012, 01:56:37 pm »
Despite the fact I really shouldn't be buying, I couldn't say no to cheap prices in hopes of obtaining good runners! Snagged 5 for just 1k each and since I also sold two for 1k each, I like to think I only paid 3k for 5, haha.

Celebroch is a 5yo son of GCh. Akhetnaten (S) out of the gold-ranked Question Authority. He raced just once this year, back in January, and finished 2nd to a horse who recently ran 2nd in a G3. He's never been worse than 3rd in 9 lifetime starts including finishing 3rd in an ungraded at 3. I'm hoping he'll just be a really nice money maker once we get him back into shape.

Jade Fox is a 4yo mare by Gallant Fox out of a champion Lucky Cigar mare. She won her only start this year, back in January. I'm hoping once she's fit again, she'll be a nice runner. Also brought her as a future broodmare prospect; I have no Gallant Fox in my herd beyond a granddaughter I'm leasing for a breeding, and Jade Fox is half to MSW Margarita Rose.

Magic Lable is a 4yo mare by Unbridled. Another horse who only raced once this year, winning. Hoping she's also just a nice, solid runner and I have zero Unbridled in my herd.

Witch's Point we kept debating over bidding on or not, and eventually figured if we could get her cheap, it's worth it. She's an unraced 3yo filly by Point Given, whom I'm a big fan of, out of a bronze-ranked mare whose only other racing foal has done pretty well and last ran 5th in a stakes. She's also a massive 17.1hh so I'm hoping that getting started late in her 3yo year means she's done growing and will perform well!

Macau was our final purchase. He's a 3yo gray son of Diplomat out of a champion Magic Man (B) mare. We're not sure how he'll perform, since his last race was running 2nd in a 50k claimer back in January. We went for him because he's hit the board 3 of 7 times, which really isn't too bad, and he's half to our own MSW Ch. Rocket Smoke. He's also 18.0hh which I had not noticed. Holy crap! Haha.

Now if only my other 3 horses in the auction would sell, rock-bottom price or not.

Hopefully this is the last minor clear out. All have reserves of 5k to cover the consignment fee. I'm trying to sort out my herd and these guys got the axe. There might be a few more if I can make myself let go, haha.

August Burns Red, Ch. Turn n'Burn (S) x Ch. Three Spectacles, by Spectacular Bid (S). 2yo filly.
Entered to race this Saturday. Three Spectacles is a MSW and half to SW Three Secrets and bronze-ranked Seattle Triple, dam of Ch. Holiday Rock. This is her oldest foal.

Brilliant Melody, Silver Charm (B) x Blowin in the Wind (G), by West Wind (S) 2yo filly.
Probably just a late bloomer since Silver Charm's oldest crop is 2, so it's still to be seen how he is as a sire in the long run. She's half to two MSW's: ICh. Soft Whispers and Ch. A Mighty Wind.

I'm Your Devil, WCh. I'm Your Angel (S) x Jezabelle (B), by War Admiral (S). 3yo gelding.
Might make for a nice project horse for someone. half to SP War Letters. His dam, Jezabelle, is out of gold-ranked Devil's Trademart, making her half to NCh. Devil May Care (S).

Into the Sea, GCh. Go for Dash (S) x Jazzify (B), by GCh. Jazz It Up (G). 2yo colt.
Half to SP A.P. Goodyear who is 7 points from her champion title. Jazzify is out of Reine-de-Course Affirm It (S), making her half to MSW's GCh. Wild Rumors (S), Ch. Wouldn'tyouknowit (B), and Ch. Good to Go. Also half to SP Ch. Highland Native (G).

Perelandria, GCh. Highland Laird (S) x Ch. Mercury Rising. 2yo filly.
Sire needs no introduction. Perelandria is Mercury Rising's second foal.

Spirit of Autumn, NCh. Lasting Spirit (B) x Autumn Melodies (G). 3yo gelding.
Half to MSW GCh. Autumn Cat.

General/Questions / Re: Members not Voting?

I know Grace (Hello Starling Farm) was on vacation for the last 2-3 weeks and is now taking a break from the internet due to work and personal reasons, so I'm pretty sure she won't be around for voting.

Love the name!

Questions / Re: 2 yo's Colt v Fillies
« on: July 07, 2012, 03:20:01 am »
They're also mixed all the time in Japan, South Africa, and a few other places in eastern Asia (India and Singapore are frequent, but don't quote me on that). It's really only America that seems to freak out over mixing genders. I think it was last year or the year before where a filly from...India? Won the Triple Crown and Triple Tiara out there.

And since horses are stat-based here and such, I really haven't noticed a difference between running my fillies/mares in gender-restricted races vs. open. If they suck, they suck, haha.
