Apart from Starfish horses finishing 1-2 in the G1. Manhattan Handicap, nothing warranted writing about.

The race was won by Ch. Zealous (5yo, Monarchos) with [https://www.finalfurlong.org/viewhorse.php?horse=21508]NCh. Holy Spurs (6yo, Tottenham Hotspur) in second place.

The only other thing of note was that we successfully claimed [https://www.finalfurlong.org/viewhorse.php?horse=29412]Ch. Fool Moon from Lochiedo Stables after he won his Claiming Race.

Anything Goes / Re: Preakness Stakes 2018 (May 19)
« on: May 20, 2018, 11:17:27 am »
It’s not a surprise that there aren’t many American TC winners (either in RL and in FF). It is tough to ask a 3YO to run 3 gruelling races against other top class 3YO’s in the space of 5 weeks. They need to be spread out over a longer period of time (even 4 weeks between each race would be better). In addition, you could have a horse that, while it may not be among the horses qualified to run (by earnings, etc) in the Derby (which usually has the maximum 20 runners), is able to run in the Preakness or Belmont because there are fewer runners. So the trainer decides that he will forget about the Derby and concentrate thehorse’s training on one of the other two races.

In the UK, while their TC races are spread out over longer periods (May, June and Sept), the problem is the variety of the distance of each race, 1 mile, 1 1/2 miles and 1 3/4 miles. The chances of finding a horse that is equally as good at a mile as it is over the longer distances is quite remote.

Having said that, I guess that we wouldn’t want to make it that much easier to win the TC as it would take some of the mystique out of winning it.

General/Questions / Play Those Tunes
« on: May 19, 2018, 02:00:22 am »
We are sad to announce that one of our broodmares, Play Those Tunes, has died at the ripe old age of 19.

Tunes only won once in 18 tries, however, it was when she was Retired to Stud that she came into her own. She produced 11 foals, with 8 of the 9 of her progeny who have raced so far have been winners. including 3 Stakes Winners, all of which went on to be MSW and 2 Millionaires. Her progeny averaged a shade under $650k in earnings and she ended up Silver Ranked (7.5). She has 4 daughters who had joined her in the Breeding Sheds who will hopefully carry on her legacy.

Questions / Race Entry Limits
« on: May 16, 2018, 03:28:25 am »
I just had a question out of pure curiosity.

In most Races, each stable is limited to 3 entries. What would happen in the following scenario?

Stable A has a horse, Leased Horse, that they have Leased from Stable B and has entered that horse in a (for arguments sake) Stakes Race. At the same time, Stable B wants to enter 3 horses in the same race. Would they be able to enter all 3?

I know that in the Post Parade, Leased Horse would show up as owned by Stable B and Stable A would only be able to enter a maximum of 2 non-leased horses for that race. Presumably, Stable B would still be able to enter 3 horses in the race (even though the Post Parade would show that they had 4 horses in the race).

General/Questions / Re: Irish, English, American TC/TT races
« on: May 14, 2018, 09:30:54 pm »
Unfortunately, there will be no Irish TC winner this year. What're My Chances, who won the Irish 2,000 Guineas last week, has not recovered and has an "F" for Energy. We will only have one runner, Glory Honor&Praise, who finished 4th in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, but who has recovered his Energy very quickly..
