Can I get

Golden Text -  July 1a for Angel Of Death
                  - Feb 1a for Just One Strider
Sionnach - June 2b for Jorghinia

I’ve booked the dates for GT but Sionnach doesn’t have a June 2b slot available, sorry. Did you mean July 2? Or he has both June 1 slots available.

I would like to put up this hunk of horse flesh for consideration... Golden Horn

He does have Danzig 3 generations back, but pretty new pedigree otherwise.

He’s a gorgeous horse. He’s by Cape Cross - same sire as Sea The Stars. In the past, I think we’ve had to choose one or the other if there’s horses by the same sire. I think he’d be a nice addition to the game though.

Good Luck with Cuddly Thought - Beer Barrel is part of our broodmares band. Very glad to see her go to an active stable 🙂

I opted for these two:

Lonesome Magic
First Born Son x Easy Keeper (S) (Easy Goer)
Unraced 2yo filly. Half to MSW Darq Queen. Dam has produced 5 winners from 6 runners.

Resplendent
Yearling filly by Dark Continent out of Flamboyant (Gunningdownromance). First foal for MSP dam, who is out of Gold ranked Hollywood Hopes.

Excited to see how they do  :)

General/Questions / Re: Breeding matches
« on: November 09, 2017, 05:25:27 AM »
I try to book with stallions that tend to match the mare in surface preference. I generally like to use a different Stud every year in that I don’t usually breed the mare back to the same Stud (unless she has a stillborn foal) - I’m not entirely sure why in all honesty, maybe a worry about having too many horses that are closely related.

Currently there are 5 stallions at GB and about 90 active broodmares. The plan is to breed the majority of those mares to our own boys this year with a few outside studs as well. Who gets which mare is a bit pot luck - I’ve tried to rotate the turf preference mares between
Quarren and Sionnach, depending on which one covered them last year. As Brigade and Changeling (both by Sadlers Wells) have more runners then there might be a clearer idea of which lines might cross well with Quarren (SW - seemed to cross well with everything but only sired about 35 foals) - Sionnach is a little harder as there are currently no other sons of Giant’s Causeway at Stud. I think it will be a case of trying to breed him to the best mares we have and hope for the best!

Most of our dirt mares will visit either Golden Text or Lasting Spirit - they’re both older boys but have good records in the shed. Due to their age, it seems sensible to use them as I don’t know how much longer they’ll be around for. Spirit also gets a fair proportion of our jumps mares.

Mantle of Power was on the potential sales list but I just have a feeling he might bloom in the next year or so. He’s from the Highland Rogue line so we’re mainly sending him mares from the What’s It Worth line this year.

Choice of outside studs depend pretty much on their pedigree and how it might fit with the  broodmares. I do look at who’s crossed well with which sire previously and look at using that sire or a son if possible. If the mare doesn’t have any foals to race then seeing who her own dam crossed we’ll with or potentially a half sister might guide my choice.

I have no idea if any of these plans will produce successful racehorses! There’s a small number of GB bred Stakes winners but not as many as i’d like. I’m hoping that since GT only joined us last year and our first LS and Quarren sired runners start next year, we might start to see an improvement over the next couple of years. I hope the standard of the GB broodmares is improving as well - I’m very sentimental about my ponies, especially the homebreds but am trying to be ruthless and sell them at 4 if they’re not up to Stakes level - fairly easy with the colts but much harder with fillies!

General/Questions / Re: 2yo's for 2022
« on: November 02, 2017, 07:19:19 AM »
Here Comes Trouble (Foolhardy) is the only one of the six we highlighted last year to show any talent so far. She’s MSW, MSP. Most of 2yo are very lightly raced so hopefully they’ll improve into nice 3yos.

For 2020, we’re most excited about Quarren’s first crop and will be happy to see some winners for him next year, whether they’re ours or other stables’! He didn’t win a race until he was three though, so we’re hopeful rather than confident.

Most of our 2yo for next year that we’re most excited about are either late babies and/or out of mares that have traditionally produced late bloomers so these might be better as ‘3yos for 2021’!

Cherry Pie (Black Cherry x Question Authority). Half sister to Quarren, from BC’s first crop.

Kirsh (Black Cherry x Crowd Pleaser). Half to NCh King of Gondor.

Quaint (Quarren x NCh Fingerprints). Half to 1 MSW, 1 SW and 1 SP runner.

Quip (Quarren x Just A Fox). Half to WCh Sionnach and NCh Llwynog.

Svalbard (Foolhardy x Just Like Ice). Half to a MW (3yo) and winning 2yo. Dam is half sister to Sionnach, Llwynog etc and was a SW at 4.
