It is a sad day at Battle Hill today...

Deputy Miss delivered a stillborn filly this morning... she was 6 days late and this being her first foal we weren't worried...

The vet has checked Deputy Miss out and has given her a clean bill of health... she will visit War Chant for her 2014 foal... and hopefully deliver a live healthy foal...

1 Filly / 2 Colts / 1 Stillborn... 29 left to Foal...

This morning has been a long battle...

on our midnight rounds, we noticed Reine-de-Course mare Take Account thrashing in her stall... she was in hard labor and the foal was presenting backwards... an emergency call to the vet and 4 hours later... we had a wonderful little filly... Take Account is 17 this year and has produced 10 live foals... it was decided to retire her from brood duty so she can hang out and enjoy the rest of her life at Battle Hill...

So let me introduce you to Take Account's last foal...

Semi-Charmed
Blood Bay - Filly - 9.2h - Star, snip, RF Blaze, LF Ermine, RH Ermine, LH Ermine
Sired by: Ch. Irish River (S)
Out of: Take Account (G) Reine-de-Course (I)

Charmed is what this young lady is... coming into the world backwards and a wopping 9.2h... We are very excited to have this Ch. Irish River filly in our barn... and can hardly wait for her to hit the track in 2015...

2 Fillies / 3 Colts / 1 Stillborn / 1 Broodmare Retired... 29 left to Foal...

Congrats on a healthy baby.  Hopefully she'll do her (gorgeous) bloodlines justice.

I hope Take Account has a long retirement, it's well-deserved.

Dance is the first Worth daughter I was fortunate enough to buy... this is her first foal... and I wanted something other than a Rouge bred stallion to cross on her... Who better than A.P. Indy? I'm excited about this colt... can't wait to see him on the track in 2015!! Savethelastdance will visit Holy Bull for her 2014 foal...

2 Fillies / 4 Colts / 1 Stillborn / 1 Broodmare Retired... 28 left to Foal...

Two more foals arrived early this morning... and neither were the one we've been waiting on...

Hero Complex
Dark Bay - Colt - 8.3h - RH Coronet, LH Ermine
Sired By: ICh. Magic Glory
Out of: Ancient Honour

The name comes form Glory & Honour... thus Hero Complex...  ;D Magic Glory's first foals will hit the track this spring... and this is Ancient Honour's first foal... We're not sure how this boy will run... he may be for sale later this year... Ancient Honour will be bred to Battle Hill's Ch. Turn n'Burn for her 2014 foal...

Celtic Hymn
Liver Chestnut - Filly - 8.0h - Snip, RF Ermine, RH Ermine, LH Ermine

Out of: Ch. Hermione

Hymn is a lovely filly... we are so excited about her... she's part of FFCh. High Chances 2nd foal crop... his race record is incredible... she is Ch. Hermione's second foal... and second filly... Hermione was one of my starter horses... and was a little fickled on the track... but was quite good at the allowance level... I'm expecting really nice things from this filly... Ch. Hermione will visit GCh. Highland Laird for her 2014 foal...

3 Fillies / 5 Colts / 1 Stillborn / 1 Broodmare Retired... 26 left to Foal...

When Elegance finally arrived and she is huge! standing a full 2 hands taller than our first foal of the season... She's already very bold and I love her color... Sired by Gold Ranked NCh. Highland Wizard... she is Swing Vote's first foal... I have big expcetation of this filly... can't wait to see her on the track... Swing Vot is headed to Shadowbrook Farm on lease for 2014...

I had to dash to school this morning... and was not able to check the foaling barn... when I got an excited call from the stable lad for the brood barn... I Put A Spell On U was spraying milk with every turn of the stall she made... and was not at all interested in her morning feed... A quick look at the teacher (who understood what was going on) sent me flying from class and racing to the barn... by the time I got there it was all over but the shouting! Let me introduce you to our new boy...

U Remind Me
Black - Colt- 9.2h - Star, stripe, snip, RF Ermine, RH Ermine, LH Ermine
Sired by: FFCh. TakeMeToHollywood

We recently bought I Put A Spell On U in foal to TakeMeToHollywood form Ivy Creek Farm... and were hoping for a filly... but we have one more shot at that filly... I'm not sure what to expect from this colt... but I'm sure he's gonna be a star... I Put a Spell On U will be bred to our own Ch. Turn n'Burn for her 2014 foal...

9 Fillies / 11 Colts / 1 Stillborn / 1 Broodmare Retired... 13 left to Foal...

Yay!  Glad to see he arrived safe & sound for ya.   :)

Figures that he's black, though.  Most of my babies have been this year.   ::)  So much for my theory of trying to breed for several color options in addition to talent so I would have no idea what to expect...

I woke to the terrible screams of our stable lad... and it was coming from the brood barn... I hurridly threw on my coat over my pajamas (who has time to dress?)... and when I arrived at the brood barn I noticed our trainer and two other stable lads standing just outside Devil's Lace's stall... and there was wimpring comeing from inside the stall... as I ran up I was asking what was going on? Jason (the trainer)... was smiling from ear to ear and said "the lad thought he was going to get a hand on Lacy's new baby"... Wonderful... this is Lacy's first foal and she's proving to be a typical Devil's Bag daughter... over protective of her babies... peeking in I seen the lad in a corner rolled up in a ball and Lacy standing over him... while the new baby peeked at him from behind mommy... I spoke softly to the mare and caught her attention... and slipped into the stall and got a halter on her... the lad had learned a valuable lesson... don't mess with maiden mares without a support team behind you... anyway let me introduce our newest baby...

Premium Lace
Liver Chestnut - Filly - 8.1h - Star, snip, RH Ermine, LH Ermine

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to post in the 2013 foals again this year... but Apple Pie just couldn't wait 2 weeks to foal...

Yesterday Morning we discovered Apple Pie (A. P. Indy (G/G) Chef-de-Race (I) x Sugary Lips (G)) had delivered a stunning colt by WCh. Highland Bandit (S)... and at 2 weeks earlt he's a big boy standing 9.0 hh... so let us introduce our last foal of 2013 (we hope there are several more due on the first!)...

High Octane
2013 - Bay - 9.0 hh
Blaze, RF Blaze, LF Blaze, RH Blaze, LH Coronet (ok this is not right!)
Sired by: WCh. Highland Bandit (S)
Out of Apple Pie: (A. P. Indy (G/G) Chef-de-Race (I) x Sugary Lips (G))

I'm excited about this colt... we wanted to try something new by crossing Bandit onto an A. P. Indy daughter... if he lives up to his breeding he should be a monster on the track... unfortunately we will not be bringing him out as a 2 yo...

Ooof....that's what I'm hoping doesn't happen to me.  I bought a mare not long ago that's due on the 4th.  Congrats on your new baby though!
