A mostly disappointing day, but whoot! Those 2 wins saved my booty. Now to restrain myself from buying any more horses so I don't go broke again. Lol.

The BC qualifiers list is currently really buggy. Some horses are getting 3 or more times the points than they should actually have, and the system isn't recognizing any updates. I'm pretty sure Shanthi is aware of the issue but hasn't had time to take care of it yet.

I've got 2 who will be participating in the JCGC. First one is Ch. Fractal, who won the 9.5f Acorn Stakes in June and placed 3rd in the 10f Travers Stakes. Considering she held her ground pretty well against some steep competition in the Travers, I'm hoping that'll mean she's game for another 10f this month. The second entry is It's a Date, a 4YO son of FFCh. High Chances. He's a gamble, since his only win this year is in an 8f Allowance, but he ran really well and has a good bloodline, so I felt it'd be worth the risk.

I currently have plans for 2 of mine: Ch. Towering Clover for the Dirt Mile, and Ch. Fractal for the Distaff. Towering Clover won the Mother Goose Stakes this year and placed in the Saratoga Breeders' Cup. Fractal has won, placed, and showed in 3 GR1 races so far this year (1st in the Acorn Stakes, 2nd in the Go For Wand Stakes, and 3rd in the Travers Stakes).

Provided they both stay on the qualifier list, this will be my first time competing in any of the Breeders' Cup races, so I'm pretty excited. XD

Me too! He seems to be doing really well, so I'm gonna do everything I can to get him there.

Annual Select Auction / Re: 2022 Annual Select Auction - How'd You Do?
« on: September 05, 2018, 08:25:57 pm »
Didn't get any of my top picks, but I've already got so many horses, I didn't fight too hard for anybody either. Lol. Picked up a few here toward the end though, because I have an unhealthy addiction to buying horses. Paid $25k for each.

The first is Diversion, a 2014 mare by GCh. Highland Laird (S) and Ch. Detour (G). No foals yet, and being raced by Final Furlong, her true running potential is unknown, but if she produces as well as her dam, she'll be well worth the price paid.

Next is Flashy Wish, a 3YO ICh. Sleipnir (B) filly. She's already stakes placed, so should be able to hold her own on the track with some good training.

Last but not least, a weanling colt by ICh. Unabridged (G) and Ch. Behind The Mask (B). Hoping he'll live up to his sire's reputation. For now he's being called Plot Hole.

Questions / Re: Question About Natural Energy
« on: September 04, 2018, 03:12:37 pm »
Lol. On a small budget, that is, indeed, a lot of broodmares.

As for racing vs. farm time, I think everyone has a slightly different approach. I have had success doing what you have suggested with 3 months at the track and 1 at the farm. For a small budget, shipping can get costly, so leaving horses at the track helps cut down on those costs. Some (like myself currently) will ship their horses home for a couple weeks between races. It just ensures their NE is top-notch for every race. But I don't think there's any one "ideal" way to go about it. Just keep them well-trained and don't push them beyond their limits and you should do fine. If you're really curious about how people do things, you can always buy horses from the bigger/most successful stables and look at their workouts and shipping records to get an idea for how they do things. No sense in re-inventing the wheel, as the saying goes.

The number of times you race your horse in a month kinda depends on the horse, but as a general rule, I wouldn't suggest racing them more than twice in a month. And if you do race them more, you'll probably want to send them home to the farm more frequently, as heavy racing can drain a horse's NE very quickly. Also, some horses' performances begin to tank if you race them too often. It really all depends on the quality of your horse.

Edit: I should add that there is a distinct difference between a horse's energy grade in the workouts section and their actual natural energy (NE). The energy grade only means so much.

Jockey weights can be found in the list of jockeys. Just go to Racing --> Jockey List.

As for the comment of "could carry more weight in races," I wouldn't worry too much about it. Mostly, it means what it says, that the horse can carry more weight than it currently carries. This isn't a bad thing. Some races will add weight to try and level the playing field. If a horse can carry more weight, and more weight is added, it should still be able to compete without penalty.

Did a quick search and found this from Shanthi, "It's regarding jockey weight. Nothing you can do, really, as weights get assigned based on what sort of race it is. (However, if you get comments to the effect that your horse can't carry any weight, and s/he is a MSW, you might avoid handicap races where they'll get assigned a higher weight based on their performance.)"

6(2)-1-0-3(1)-0 $42,950

Ballot Paper (3yo, Candidate) in a NW2 Allowance

Glossy Top (2yo, Spock) in a NW3 Allowance
Free Doll (2yo, Latino Mix) in an Allowance
Archimedes (4yo, Eighteen Karat) in the General Douglas MacArthur (Ungr.)

Fabulous Throne (3yo, Dixie Time) in a NW2 Allowance
Ch. He's Her Knight (5yo, Double Cross) in the General Douglas MacArthur (Ungr.) - I think I need to just give up on this guy as a stakes racer. I didn't run him right as a 2YO and I think that was when he was most capable of winning.
